The Union Thunder got a big win over their conference rivals, the Loudoun Knights, in dramatic fashion yesterday.
The Union Thunder jumped out t o an early lead in the second period on goals from Luca Burgio and Ryan Temo. However, the Knights wouldnt go away as Brendan Heflin scored to tie the score at 2-2. With time ticking down in regulation, Ryan Droskowski assisted on Conor Heffernans goal to give the Thunder a late lead they would not surrender.
Both teams entered this matchup sharing the same record, but now the Union Thunder have gotten an edge with seven points, compared to five points for the Knights. The win was crucial for their playoff aspirations and will be a morale booster going forward.
